Shannon Ruiz Ross

Commissioner in Los Angeles County

I’m running for California State Assembly because I’ve lived the struggles so many families in our community face—and I’m ready to fight for the resources, respect, and representation we deserve.

As a young single mom, I was facing homelessness. I worked two jobs just to get by, and it was public services—childcare, food assistance, affordable housing programs—that gave me and my children a shot at stability. That experience shaped everything I’ve done since. I know what it’s like to fall through the cracks, and I’ve spent my life making sure others don’t have to. Whether it’s serving on my neighborhood council and organizing community clean-ups on the California Coastal Commission, I’ve always stepped up to serve because this community raised me—and I’ll never stop fighting for it.

I’m running because I believe working people deserve leaders who understand their struggles firsthand—leaders who come from the community, not just talk about it. In Sacramento, I’ll fight to protect good union jobs, expand access to housing and healthcare, and make sure our coastline and public spaces are protected for everyone—not just the wealthy few.

This isn’t just a campaign. It’s a continuation of a lifelong commitment to serve—and to make sure no one in our community ever feels like they’re on their own.
