Shannon Ruiz Ross
A fighter for working families. A voice for our coast. One of us.
Shannon Ross isn’t a career politician. Born in Harbor City and raised in the South Bay, Shannon’s story is one many in our community know well. As a young adult, she worked two jobs to support her children, put herself through school, and build a better life for her family. Those early struggles shaped her into the fighter she is today.
Now, Shannon is taking that fight to Sacramento to ensure the South Bay has a real voice on the issues that matter most to our community: safety in our homes and neighborhoods, fast emergency response times, access to quality healthcare and housing, thriving businesses and good paying jobs, and the overall quality of life.
Shannon currently serves on the LA County Beach Commission, where she works to ensure our coast remains an asset to the community, boosting small businesses, protecting local jobs, and preserving access for residents and families across the South Bay.
For more than a decade, Shannon has served on the Coastal San Pedro Neighborhood Council, where she’s been hands-on in connecting residents with essential services, improving public safety, and making government work for the people it represents. To Shannon, public service isn’t about a title—it’s about improving quality of life for the people who live here.
Following in the footsteps of her trailblazing aunt—one of the first female longshoremen in San Pedro—Shannon became a casual longshoreman herself, helping carry forward the tradition of strong union jobs at the Port of LA. She and her husband, a proud ILWU worker, also know firsthand the challenges and opportunities of running a small business while raising their family here in the district.
From coaching youth soccer and leading a Girl Scout troop to serving as President of the local Park Advisory Board, Shannon has spent years rolling up her sleeves to strengthen the fabric of the community.
Now Shannon is running for State Senate with the backing of community, business and public safety leaders as well as organizations we trust.
Because for Shannon Ross, protecting the South Bay’s quality of life isn’t just a campaign promise—it’s her life’s work.
